In the past, there have been 5 mass extinction events, the most recent of which killed the dinosaurs. These events massively effect life on Earth, wiping out most species. It is therefore important that we know if such an event is likely to happen again in the near future, and coral reefs may be a tool we can use to predict this.

About us:
The planet is undergoing increasingly rapid change, threatening the systems that we rely on in our everyday lives. Living Planet Earth was started as a place to collate environmental news, and bring new and relevant topics in science to as many people as possible. The greatest impact every one of us can have on the world is to communicate these issues. We seek to create a space where the most novel ideas surrounding the preservation of the environment can be shared and discussed. By facilitating these conversations, we hope that we can continue to promote innovation in the sciences. Subscribe to continue learning more about our planet, and follow our Twitter page and tag us in any interesting science stories you see.
